Stretch of A19 in Sunderland closed after smash involving several vehicles
A stretch of the A19 has been closed by police following a crash this evening.
The southbound side of the road has been closed between the A183 Chester Road and the A690 Herrington Interchange.
A spokesman for Northumbria Police was unable to say how many vehicles were involved in the accident.
Motorists are being advised to use alternative routes until the area is cleared.
