Struggling Roofing must turn over Allotment to dig themselves out of trouble

Jarrow Roofing will be looking to build on a positive midweek performance when they travel to fellow strugglers West Allotment Celtic.

The Roofers picked up their first point in the league since the middle of October on Tuesday night as Dan Kirkup headed in late on to secure a 1-1 draw down at Consett.

However, this result was not good enough to move the South Tynesiders up the table. Instead, they lie in 17th place in the Northern League Division One and are just six points off of the final relegation place - having played two games more than the side who currently occupy that position, Chester-le-Street Town.

Despite watching his side currently fight it out at the wrong end of the division, Roofing boss Richie McLoughlin believes he has seen plenty of positives to give him encouragement ahead of this weekend’s clash.

“I was really happy with the commitment we showed in the last match,” he said. “Consett were doing really well in the league, but we played a great second half, and we fully deserved the draw.

“Now we have to focus, take the positives from midweek and build on them in what is sure to be a tough game against West Allotment.

“Allotment are finding things difficult at the moment, and they are in a relegation battle. They will be scrapping for every point, just like we are. They always give us tough games, and we can’t take them lightly just because they are below us in the league.

“At the moment, every point matters, and a couple of bad results against the teams below us could see us slip right down, so we need to match Allotment’s work ethic and take the game to them from the start.”

West Allotment are second bottom and come into the match without a win in their last seven games in all competitions and have taken just two points during that time.

However, they have already beaten Roofing this season – recording a 2-0 win at the Boldon CA Sports Ground back in September.

McLoughlin’s men will be short on numbers once again this week as Jamie Marshall and goalkeeper Andy Jennison are both away – meaning Andy Hunter could be set to make his return in goal after missing the trip to Consett.

Anth Myers, Kerry Hedley and Alex White are still unavailable, but young winger Tom Bailey is expected to return after missing the last couple of fixtures due to injury.
