A STUDENT from South Tyneside is in the running to be crowned Miss England.
Robyn Gerencser has made it to the semi-finals of the contest, which could see her go on to represent the country at Miss World.
The 17-year-old, from Western Terrace, West Boldon, made the cut after going along to auditions in Leicester.
Robyn, who is studying for A-Levels in law, psychology and geography at St Peter’s College, in Sunderland, said: “I had to tell them about myself and have my photo taken and they said they back in touch to say if I’d got through.
“There are lots of different rounds and awards in the contest.
There’s a talent round which I’ll sing in, and a round called ‘beauty with a purpose’ which is about charity, so I told them all about how I’m a committee member for the Relay For Life in Jarrow that raises money for Cancer Research.
Representing the country would be an amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience and of course, I’m hoping to bring the trophy home to South Tyneside.Robyn Gerencser
“It was a massive shock when I found out I was through because I didn’t expect it at all. There were some amazing girls there and I just didn’t think I stood a chance. A lot of them had done pageants before but I haven’t, and I’ve kind of gone straight in at the deep end.”
Robyn will travel to Lincolnshire for the semi-final on July 5 and if she’s successful, will advance to the final later in the year.
Robyn, who hopes to become a solicitor, added: “I’m a bit nervous for the semi-final but excited too – I can’t wait to get all dressed up.
“Winning would just be absolutely unbelievable, it would just be great because then I’d get to go to Miss England.
“Representing the country would be an amazing once-in-a-lifetime experience and of course, I’m hoping to bring the trophy home to South Tyneside.”
