Keeping it in the family means success is Golden for South Tyneside’s best fish and chip shop.
Proud mum Sue Kaur is over the moon after you voted Boldon’s Golden Chippy as the Shields Gazette Chippy of the Year.

“It is absolutely fantastic,” said Sue.
Sue, who owns the business with husband Wazir Singh, has been in the takeaway business for three decades, but has recently taken a step back.
“I have been doing this for 30 years but it is my son who is actually the manager now,” she said.
“He took over two years ago.
And it is son Harsimran Sra, 28, that Sue credits for the Hedworth Lane shop’s success.
“He was the one who has pushed it this year - he has worked damned hard for it,” said Sue.
“We have never actually gone in for awards - we have always got by on our reputation.
“But he said ‘I am going to go for it,’ and it has paid off for him - it’s something he is really, really proud of.
“He is doing really well with it.”

Sue believes the secret to takeaway success is actually pretty simple.
“You have got to serve good food and have good staff,” she said.
“I have got staff who have been with me for the last 27 years on and off.
