Sunderland AFC shut fanzone due to Storm Frank: Frankie and the Heartstrings gig cancelled

Black Cats bosses have dropped plans for an appearance by local band Frankie and the Heartstrings ahead of tonight's match.

The group was due to appear at the Stadium of Light fanzone before Sunderland's clash with Liverpool tonight, but the high winds mean the decision has been taken not to open the area.

They announced the news on their Twitter feed: "Hurricane Frank's ironically meant that our show tonight can't go ahead."

Club bosses say there are no issues with tonight’s game, however, which kicks off as scheduled at 7.45pm. Stadium turnstiles and concourse bars will be open from 6.15pm.

Supporters are advised to leave additional time for their journey to and from the stadium and to be mindful of the adverse weather conditions across the region.

A bumper crowd is expected for the game and there will be a high volume of ticket collections so fans should arrive early to collect or purchase tickets. Almost 45,000 tickets have already been sold and as cash turnstiles will not be operating, the ticket office is expected to be busy. Ticket collection points will also be very busy, with a higher number of collections of pre-paid tickets due to the festive period. Supporters wishing to buy or collect tickets should arrive early to avoid queues or delays.

The Stadium of Light ticket office is open until 8.00pm (kick off is at 7.45pm). Tickets can also be purchased online at and by telephone (see below for further details).
