Powerhouse Anichebe was the star of the show against Hull City, scoring a second half double after Jermain Defoe had put the Black Cats in front.

Anichebe starred but he was quick to praise his teammates ahead of the weekend trip to Anfield to face Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side.

"We’ve got back-to-back wins now and I said after the Bournemouth game that we needed to come here and win, and that’s what we did so now we have to go for the next result and we can’t rest."

Victory over Hull was also Sunderland's first home win of the Premier League campaign and the first clean sheet too, with Jordan Pickford excellent in front of Papy Djilobodji and Lamine Kone.

Anichebe, who has three goals in two games for Sunderland, added: "JD’s set me up twice now and he plays the ball into me with space, so I just have to get contact on it.

"When the lights went off I said to him, ‘I need to score, I need to score’, and he said don't worry and I didn’t need too because he found me.

"That said it’s not about me or JD, it’s about the whole team.

"I have to say big credit to Jordan because he made some unbelievable saves at 1-0 and at 2-0, and if they score the game could go in a different way.

"Papy and Lamine were beasts at the back and everyone was really good, and Jason came in at centre midfield and didn’t look out of place.

"I can’t give everyone enough credit."
