BOSSES at Sunderland AFC are encouraging fans travelling to Sunday’s derby game against Newcastle to use the club bus.
The buses will depart from the Stadium of Light at 11.15am on Sunday, taking fans directly to St James’s Park.
The buses will follow the most direct route on the day and will be escorted by Northumbria Police for the duration of the journey.
No special football fan Metro trains are running on the day.
Due to the festive period, public transport across the North East is expected to be busy and to avoid any delays or issues in getting to the game, Sunderland fans are “strongly advised” to take advantage of the free bus service provided by the club.
Almost 2,000 SAFC fans have already indicated they will be using official club transport and any supporter who wishes to use the bus service can still collect a pass from the Stadium of Light ticket office by calling 551 5004 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
The ticket office will be open from 9am to 5.30pm today and between 10am and 1pm tomorrow.
Supporters can also show their match ticket on the day in order to use the bus service.
Buses will board from 10.30am in the Green Car Park, next to the ticket office/Black Cat House.
The east stand concourse at the Stadium of Light will be open for supporters to use from 10am onwards.
Catering services and toilet facilities will be available until the buses depart.
