The tea dance project was organised to promote health and wellbeing to tenants as well as bring them together to promote inclusion.

Deputy Mayor of South Tyneside, Coun Alan Smith, said: “I was delighted to attend this fantastic event.

“It was a wonderful afternoon harking back to the 1950s with plenty of dancing, memorabilia and entertainment for everyone to enjoy. Everyone got involved and it was a great opportunity for tenants to socialise and swap stories about times gone by.

“The Deputy Mayoress and I had a lovely time enjoying a cup to tea with all of the Housing Plus tenants and ward councillors while watching the dancing. Events like this help to bring the community together and promote the importance of health and wellbeing.”

Residents from seven schemes across Jarrow were invited to take part in the tea dance event.

A second dance will take place tomorrow.
