A young cricket team from South Tyneside have batted their way into the semi-finals of a national competition.
South Shields Under 13s will take the field in Cheshire to represent the North East in the Vitality Under 13s National Championships.

The team beat off stiff competition from around the region for a place in the T20 semi-finals .
They will travel on Monday where they will take on Netherfield Cricket Club based in Cumbria for the chance of a place in the final, next month.
Junior Coach Secretary Anth Marshall said: “The cricket club always take part in the competition, but this is the furthest we have ever been. “Most of the team have played together since they were in the under 11s so its great to see how they have all progressed.
“There’s a huge buzz around the people in the club at the moment. They have all worked really hard throughout all of their training and the parents are so supportive - they are always at the games which helps.
“We have known for a while we have a real set of talented kids who are really progressing as the season continues.”
South Shields Cricket Club is based in Dean Road and a have a range of senior and junior teams.
Anth said: “We are always on the lookout for new players to join the club. We will soon be looking at our winter training which would be an ideal time for anyone who is interested in joining us to come along.
“We are particularly keen to hear from youngsters from five - 10-year-olds as we need to keep our recruitment going.”
