A strawberry tea has helped to raise more than £400 for two good causes.
The Townswomen’s Guild held the fundraiser at All Saints Community Centre in Stanley Street, South Shields.
About 70 people attended the event including the former Mayor and Mayoress Fay Cunningham and Stella Matthewson and the area’s local councillors.
Entertainment was provided by a band and singer.
Britta Daley, chairman of the guild based at the community centre, said: “The event went really well. We raised £440 for the children’s heart unit foundation and Northern Care for Cancer.
“We had quite a lot of support for the event with some of our members bringing in homemade cakes.
The next meeting of the Guild is on September 1 at All Saints Community Centre at 2pm.
