Staff will be taking their place outside the gates of South Shields Community School on November 1.

The day of action somes as a consultation process continues over the future of the school after a sponsor was unable to be found so it could become an academy following an inadequate Ofsted report.

This year, the school recorded it’s best G.C.S.E results but, by law, South Tyneside Council cannot maintain a school rated ‘inadequate’.

Headteacher Allie Denholm, said: “The school has received overwhelming support from parents, carers, students, members of the community and MP’s over the past couple of months and it is clear that everyone feels passionately about our school, especially given the recent improvements.

“The teachers at South Shields School have been crucial in its turnaround and they are taking action in the way they feel most appropriate. Their actions and feelings are connected to the current uncertainty for everyone involved with the school.

“We have a team of incredibly dedicated staff and the commitment to our students’ long-term education will always remain our number one priority. We have had a fantastic start to the school year since returning in September and we hope everyone connected to the school will continue to share the successes of our school.”

A social media post on a group set up to bring those fighting to save the school together, it promoted the day of action by teachers.

And while, parents and pupils are allowed to join them, staff would be unable to take responsibility of students taking part.

It is understood it will take place outside the school at 8am.
