Joanne Scott, who works at Park View School in South Shields, has been awarded The Jenny Ellis Award for the Outstanding Higher Level Teaching Assistant in the North East.

The Jenny Ellis Award was introduced in 2010 by Carnegie Leaders in Learning to commemorate the sudden and tragic death in 2009 of a much loved and respected colleague, Jenny Ellis.

HLTAs from across the region are nominated by school colleagues for their excellence in advancing the learning of pupils and working effectively as part of the school community.

Shortlisted teaching assistants were invited to a special ceremony at Headingley Carnegie Stadium this week, where Joanne was announced as the winner.

Park View also nominated Christina Ramshaw, who was also shortlisted for the finals.

Joanne, said: “I am totally shocked but delighted with the award, we have a fantastic team at Park View School and I love the job I am doing. I am really looking forward to London in November for the national awards, I’m keeping everything crossed.”
