Drivers are being warned to reduce their speed and take extra care on the A1 in Gateshead following a fire.
A fire at a Team Valley factory- which caused smoke to billow across the A1- has been put out by crews.
Six engines, including a crew from South Shields, were called to the blaze in the roof of a factory on Eastern Avenue, Team Valley, around 6.20am.
The fire is believed to have started in a large curing oven used to bake enamel onto radiators, and has caused extensive damage to the oven and roof.
Fire fighters wearing breathing apparatus used a water jet; an aerial platform and two pressure fans to extinguish the blaze, which was brought under control in less than two hours.
Nobody was hurt during the incident but police warned drivers that visibility may be reduced in the vicinity of the site and advised drivers to drive at a reduced speed on the A1.
