Teenage Porsche driver caught travelling down the A19 at 133mph

A teenage driver has been handed a court date after police reported catching him driving at 133mph down the A19 in a Porsche.

Cleveland & Durham Road Policing Unit shared an image of the driver on Facebook to promote National Speed Awareness Week.

Police said they had to drive at 144mph to catch the 19-year-old who was behind the wheel of a Porsche Cayman travelling south on the A19 at 7.57pm on Friday.

His average speed was 133mph. The dual carriageway has a speed limit of 70mph.

The driver was stopped by police and will soon have to explain his actions in court.

The post from police said: “This week is National Speed awareness.

“Check this picture out taken earlier on from one of our traffic vehicles. Note the speed in the bottom right corner is the speed of the police vehicle trying to catch up with the Porsche Cayman travelling down the A19 south.

“The 19-year-old driver was stopped and informed of his average speed of 133mph. He will shortly be going to court to explain his actions.”
