That's Entertainment to leave South Shields - just a year after opening

A South Shields music store is set to close its doors just a year after opening in the town.

That’s Entertainment, based at 4-6 King Street, South Shields, opened in December 2014 selling new and used CDs, DVDs and games.

The Gazette understands that the store employs seven staff and is due to close on February 21.

That’s Entertainment was celebrated when it opened in the town, boosting the high street by creating 10 jobs.

Craig Dawson, head of retail at That’s Entertainment said: “Unfortunately, we were unable to reach an agreement with our landlord regarding an extension to our term, with the landlord wishing to explore interest from another party.

“We’re looking into all options in the town and surrounding areas.”

That’s Entertainemnt have confirmed no other stores across the country have been affected.

A South Tyneside Council spokeswoman said: “It is always disappointing when a business leaves the high street.
“However, we hope that the property is relet as soon as possible.

“Here in South Shields, we are doing all we can to make the Town Centre an attractive place for business. 
“The ongoing 365 regeneration project will help to increase footfall among shoppers and visitors as we expand our offer beyond just retail to leisure and recreation.”

When it opened in December 2014 a That’s Entertainment spokesman told the Gazette: “We’ve been looking to open a store in South Shields for some time now, and were delighted when a suitable opportunity presented itself.

“South Shields is always a busy town, and we feel that our offer will be a great success with the local shoppers. We look forward to trading well in South Shields for many years to come.”
