SUNDERLAND fans got behind Adam Johnson at the Black Cats’ first match after his arrest on child sex allegations.

Travelling supporters gave a voluble rendition of “there’s only one Adam Johnson” as fans chanted the winger’s name in the opening minutes of Sunderland’s away game against Hull.

The 27-year-old was arrested on Monday on suspicion of engaging in sexual activity with a child.

The England international has been released on bail, and has been suspended by the Black Cats pending the outcome of a police investigation.

But some members of away contingent felt the need to stand by their player with sections of supporters giving out the loud chant moments after kick-off at the KC Stadium last night. The game ended 1-1.

Johnson is due to answer bail in two weeks.

We reported yesterday how the family of his partner Stacey Flounders, from Hartlepool, are standing by him.

Stacey is reported to have given birth to the couple’s daughter seven weeks ago.

Speaking from her family home, her mother told reporters: “They are still very close and are absolutely still together.”

She added: “He is 100 per cent innocent and we will stand by him. He hasn’t been found guilty of anything. He is a great lad and has not done anything wrong. This is a horrible situation.”
