Ross Vincent Miller, 20, was in the Wouldhave pub, in Mile End Road, South Shields, on Wednesday, November 8, when he became abusive, South Tyneside magistrates heard.

Prosecutor Glenda Beck said: “At 12.15am police were called to the Wouldhave pub after reports that this defendant was threatening members of the public inside the bar.

“When officers arrived the defendant was standing outside where he was described being aggressive and abusive.”

The court heard Miller continued to swear and shoutout - despite being warned by police to stop.

He was then cautioned and arrested.

Miller, of Friar Way, Jarrow, pleaded guilty to being drunk and disorderly.

He has several previous convictions for the same offence, as well as assaulting police and criminal damage, Ms Beck added

Charlie Carr, defending, said: “He tells me he suffers from Leukaemia and takes a lot of medication.

“I suspect the medication doesn’t mix well with alcohol.”

District Judge Roger Elsey said: “Drinking to excess means you are giving us a lot of your money which is very kind of you, but you might think that is a very silly thing to do.

“On this occasion you are going to pay us £230.

“If you want to keep your Employment Support Allowance to yourself, stop getting drunk.”

The £230 consisted of a £150 fine, £30 costs and £50 surcharge.
