Some photographs seem to capture a period of time to perfection '“ a snapshot of a bygone age that brings back so many smiles and memories.

For me, today’s selection of pictures do just that.

The first photo was taken in March 1963, at the Excel Bowling Centre, in Jarrow, and shows 17-year-old Ray Bowley showing Kevin Carnegie, aged six, of Jarrow, and Judith Wood, of Hebburn, how to bowl.

Also, snapped a year later, is a portrait of 18-month-old Shirley Hughes peering around the galloper horses on a carousel ride at a local amusement park.

Do you recognise the little one or the ride she is standing on?

How many other people pictured can you identify?
