Kind-hearted young people went the extra mile to show the true meaning of Christmas.
After doing some work on homelessness at Christmas, young people and staff from Simonside Climbing Wall asked other service users and staff to donate food, toys and toiletries.
They also wrote a letter to their local Sainsbury store on the Simonside estate to ask if they could donate anything and they kindly gave two bags full of food.
After carrying out some further research, the young people decided to donate what they had gathered to Places for People at Simonside. Places for People is a support service for young people who experience difficulty because of homelessness or being a single parent.
Councillor Joan Atkinson, Lead Member for Children, Young People and Families, said: “This is a wonderful gesture. These young people have shown real community spirit by thinking about some of our more vulnerable residents in South Tyneside.
“Such wonderful and selfless action is heart-warming and is the essence of goodwill.”
