A mischievous pup had to be rescued by firefighters after getting himself trapped between two fences.

Lisa Craig was distrught when she discovered one year-old Chicco wedged under her garden fence with his neck stuck, yesterday afternoon.

She tried to resuce her beloved pooch without much luck calling on the fire brigade to come to her dog’s aid.

Miss Craig said: “He had been playing out while I was taking my washing in. Then I noticed I couldn’t see him anymore.

“I saw him trapped under the fence. I was frantic.

“I could hear him whimpering and I couldn’t get him out. I phoned my best friend asking her what can I do.

“I know to some people he is just a dog but to me he is my bairn.”

Firefighters were called to the address in Bicester Grove, Hebburn at about 1pm.

The crew removed fence panels to allow the dog to be freed.

Paul Scott, crew manager at Hebburn fire station, said: “The dog had managed to squeeze between his owner’s fence and the fence of the property opposite.

“We climbed up and could see him in the small space, but he was quite happy, he wasn’t in any distress or anything.

“So we removed the panels and reunited him with his grateful owner.”

Yesterday, Chicco was full of energy and seemed to be unfazed by the ordeal.

His owner, Miss Craig added: “I really can’t thank the fire brigade enough for rescuing my dog.

“I don’t know what I would have done without them - they were brilliant.”
