Metro services cancelled on election day as industrial action continues across network

A number of peak services on the Tyne and Wear Metro network have been cancelled on Thursday, December 12 as a result of industrial action by drivers.

Operator Nexus says driver availability is limited due to action by the RMT union, which began on Sunday, December 1.

It has withdrawn one train operating between Monument and South Shields; and South Shields and South Gosforth.

Nexus says the changes mean there will be gaps in service and trains will be particularly busy.

It is asking passengers to leave extra time for their journey or travel outside peak hours if possible.

On Thursday, there was also a 20-minute gap in service between Airport and South Hylton due to a train being withdrawn.

This was reported between 6.30am and 7.30am.
