Shields Ferry service set to resume just in time for Christmas - here is everything you need to know about its festive timetable

The service, which is operated by Nexus, has confirmed that the ferry will start to run between South Shields and North Shields once again, this Saturday, December 21.

It comes just in time for Christmas, and follows weeks of passengers having to use a bus replacement service between the two ferry landings via Tyne Tunnel .

The damage was not said to be weather-related.

The operator has now thanked passengers for their patience during this time.

In a statement it said: “Thank you to all of our customers for your patience during the period of disruption on the North Shields landing.

“Details of our Christmas and New Year service arrangements can be found below.

Announcing the ferry’s festive timetable, the operator confirmed there would be no service running on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

A Sunday service will be running on Boxing Day.

On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve the last ferries will be running at 6.45pm, South Shields and 7pm, North Shields.

A normal service is in operation on December 27, 28, 29, 30.
