According to reports in France the Magpies have made an approach to sign the 18-year-old central defender this summer, although they face a battle to land his signature, with Austrian outfit RB Salzburg also said to be keen on the player.

Nade is out of contract at St-Etienne this summer, reports France Football, and with no new deal yet in the offing a number of clubs have cast their eye over the teenager, who is said to be one of the best of the next crop of French players coming up through the ranks.

The youngster is yet to make his debut at first-team level but has shone when turning out for ASSE's Under-19 side and second string this campaign.

The French outlet's report also claims that United have made a 'concrete' offer for the kid.

Having scouted the French market extensively, the Magpies have strong roots across the Channel, with Graham Carr a key figure in that.

Carr has plucked the likes of Moussa Sissoko, Yohan Cabaye, first-team regular this campaign Yoan Gouffran and recent second string turnout Massadio Haidara from the French market in recent years.
