Delays for Metro passengers after points failure halts trains in both directions

Metro customers are facing delays to their journeys this morning after a points failure brought services to a stop.

Due to an ongoing points issue at Hebburn today, Friday, February 12, all trains are now departing from platform number 1 at that station.

Go North East bus service 27 will continue to accept Metro tickets between Newcastle and South Shields.

The network had resumed at 7am and trains then began to run to all destinations, but not to timetable.

It caused issues between Four Lane Ends and Haymarket, Regent Centre and Haymarket and Pelaw to Hebburn in both directions.

Service bosses have apologised for any inconvenience caused by the disruption.

The points failure came after delays to service of up to 30 minutes in some areas due to multiple failed trains which had to be taken out of service at 6.15am.
