Early morning Metro disruption resolved as lines reopen following weekend works

Metro services have resumed between Gateshead Stadium and South Hylton/South Shields on Monday, August 10, following early morning line disruption.

Nexus, the operator of the Tyne and Wear Metro service, has confirmed that trains are now running between Gateshead Stadium and South Hylton and Gateshead Stadium and South Shields.

The early morning disruption was caused after weekend track work between Pelaw and Heworth overran.

A replacement bus service was running in the affected areas during the disruption.

A Nexus spokesman said: “The track replacement work at the weekend between Pelaw and Heworth overran.

"We’re sorry for the disruption this caused customers.

“It meant that trains were unable to start as usual between Gateshead Stadium and South Shields and South Hylton early this morning.

“These lines were given the all clear to re-open at 7.15am. The replacement buses were left in place during the disruption.”
