Escalators at South Shields transport interchange affected by power cut in the area

There are currently no escalators working at South Shields transport interchange after reports of a power cut in the area.

Passengers travelling to and from South Shields on Sunday morning (August 2) are being advised that the escalators at the transport interchange on Keppel Street are currently not in use.

This is believed to be due to a power cut in the South Shields area.

Tyne and Wear Metro has informed passengers that there are currently no working escalators at the station and advised those requiring escalator use to use the stairs or the two lifts.

In a post on its Twitter account Tyne and Wear Metro said: “Due to a power cut in the South Shields area there are currently no escalators at South Shields, passengers requiring escalator use are advised to use either the stairs or the two lifts at this station.”
