New staff due to start work at Tyne Tunnel to support motorists during peak times

Motorists using the Tyne Tunnel can expect smoother journeys at busy periods thanks to investment in new staff.

TT2 Limited, the operator of the Tyne Tunnels, has recruited three new staff members to support customers at the toll plazas during busy periods.

They will start work on Monday, December 2 and work alongside the existing team in keeping vehicles moving and dealing with any issues.

Chris Ward, Customer Operations Manager at TT2 Limited, said: “Every day there are customers that want help to smooth their way through the tolls, listening to them, we have decided to invest in the new roles to make sure we can attend to them quickly, keeping the plazas moving even at the busiest times.

“During our peak times, traffic can often double, increasing from 1,500 to 3,000 vehicles per hour, and we wanted to bring in some additional team members to support the crew who are already helping customers every day.”
