A SOUTH Tyneside watersports club is inviting people to try out life on the ocean wave.

Sailing clubs and watersports centres across the North East are opening their doors to visitors in May.

South Shields Sailing Club, in River Drive, is taking part in the Royal Yachting Association’s Push the Boat Out initiative.

The scheme is now in its fourth year and sees open days and sailing events take place at centres between Saturday, May 9, and Sunday, May 17.

Push the Boat Out offers nationwide sailing and windsurfing taster sessions, introducing newcomers of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to the sports.

Each open day and taster session will be different depending on the activities each club or centre offers, but all Push the Boat Out events will show what the sports are all about, from the freedom of being on the water to the social buzz of club life and will highlight how accessible sailing is to everyone.

Many events are free, but booking is essential for some activities.
