Turning back time to 1980s in aid of South Shields charity Cancer Connections

A group of ladies are aiming to take partygoers back to the 1980s in a bid to raise cash for charity.

Fran Manson, Mavis Maughan, Laura Morland and Lynda Lamb have once again joined forces to host a night of music, dance and entertainment in aid of Cancer Connections.

The event will be the 13th organised by the group for the charity which supports people diagnosed with cancer and their families.

To date, more than £40,000 has been raised over the years and the ladies are hoping to add to this total when the doors open on their latest event on Saturday, September 22.

Previous themes for the party nights have included Abba, and Irish night and All Things British.

Mrs Manson said: “It will be 10 years since we started raising money for Cancer Connections and we have raised well over £40,000 with the help of all those who have attended our nights.

“Each year we have had a different theme, and this year we have chosen the 80s. Fancy dress from TV, music or films is optional.

“We always have a great turnout to the events and hope this year will be no different.”

The night will feature a DJ, bingo and raffle.

The women kickstarted their fundraising efforts for the charity after being brought together after each one has had their lives affected by cancer in someway.

Those attending are asked to bring an item of food for the buffet table.

Tickets, priced £5 are available by contacting Mrs Manson on 1919 536 7652 or Mrs Lamb on 07908 855 245, doors open at 7pm.
