Two arrests after fire at derelict office in South Shields
Two people have been arrested after firefighters put out a blaze at a derelict office block.
Officers from South Shields and Hebburn stations were called to the office in East Holborn, close to the River Tyne, shortly after 5.30pm on Saturday.
They had to use cutting equipment to get past the shutters to get into the office, which is on the ground floor of a four-storey building.
A matress was destroyed by the fire and the room was 20% severely damaged by fire, while the remainder of the building was damaged by smoke.
Two youths were arrested by police following the incident.
No-one was hurt.
