Two taken to hospital after Shields smash

TWO people were taken to hospital after a three-vehicle collision in South Shields today.

Firefighters from Shields and Fulwell were called to Mortimer Road shortly after 1pm to deal with a collision between a Honda Civic, a Renault Clio and a Renault Captur.

The driver of the Civic had to be cut free and was taken to South Tyneside Hospital suffering from suspected spinal injuries.

The driver of the Clio was also taken to hospital for precautionary tests.

The driver of the Captur and a front-seat passenger in the Civic were unhurt.

Firefighters made all three vehicles safe.
