Update on Sunderland transfer target as two more clubs show interest

The Black Cats' boss is keen to land Ross County right-back Jason Naismith, who he has previously worked with at St Mirren.

Sunderland have reportedly submitted a £200,000 bid for the defender who was the standout performer in the Staggies' relegation from the Scottish Premier League last season.

But Ross' side will face some intense competition for the 23-year-old, with two more clubs said to have lodged bids for Naismith.

Dons boss Derek McInnes - once a Sunderland managerial target - is known to be a big fan of the right-back and is keen to land him this summer.

Also interested are League One rivals Peterborough, who have confirmed that they have already lodged a bid.

Speaking to sister title the Peterborough Telegraph, Posh's Director of Football Barry Fry said: “We have made a bid for Naismith, but I have not been told it’s been accepted. If it has that’s good news and hopefully the player will come down to us.

READ: Update on the future of Dider Ndong“I spoke to their chairman and made an offer. He was due to get back to me when he returned from holiday. The player has also been on holiday so no transfer talks have yet been set.

“Our manager is very keen on Naismith. He’s been speaking about him for a while."
