Watch the cute Rafa Benitez chant video which has sent one young Newcastle United fan viral

The three-year-old, from South Shields, paid homage to the club’s manager, Rafa Benitez, in a 20-second clip which was posted on Twitter by his dad, Kriss.

The chant, which has been heard regularly at St James’s Park and Newcastle’s away games since Benitez was appointed in March, is to the tune of ‘La Bamba’ and has the lyrics ‘Rafa Benitez, Rafa Benitez, Rafa Benitez, Chancel Mbemba, Gini Wijnaldum, Shelvey and Perez’.

Leon’s rendition has been retweeted hundreds of times on Twitter, and shared widely on Facebook, too.

His impromptu singing came after a conversation between Kriss – a forklift operator at the Port of Tyne – and his girlfriend, Leon’s mum Claire.

Kriss said: “We were trying to get Leon to sleep because he likes an afternoon nap, so we went for a drive.

“I was talking to my girlfriend about Newcastle, and Leon just started singing the Rafa song.

“I had taught him it earlier, but then he just started singing it of his own accord, so I had to record him.

“It really surprised me how much the video was shared, and even Newcastle United’s Twitter account mentioned it, which is very rare because they don’t normally respond to fans on there. I couldn’t believe it.

“We keep telling Leon he’s famous, and he just says ‘Am I?’ He doesn’t really understand it.”

Kriss, a season ticket holder at St James’s Park for 15 years, has not yet taken Leon to a match.

However, he feels his son is sure to become just as big a Newcastle fan as he is.

He added: “I’ve taken Leon to the stadium a few times but never to an actual game, because I’m not sure how he’d react to the noise.

“He turns four in July and I’m hoping to take him to a pre-season friendly, when it should be quieter.

“I’ve taught him a few chants and about the players as well, and he’s getting there.

“He recognises them when he sees them on the TV. He’s going to be Newcastle daft, like me.
