The Jarrow cousins – Sophie Vaughan and Leanne Orr – grabbed their guitars during their latest get together to record a cover – in their own unique way – of I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) by Scottish twins The Proclaimers.

The 27-year-olds reworked the famous track for an acoustic version, which is already proving popular on video sharing site YouTube.

Sophie, who works in communications, said: “We absolutely love The Proclaimers and we’d been thinking over the last couple of months about what song we could do next.

“We’ve been watching the charts but nothing really came out that we thought would translate into Geordie that well.

“We were just sat together the other night listening to The Proclaimers and it came to us to do this song.

“We’d always just done new songs in the charts and hadn’t thought of doing a good old classic before, but this one works so well and it translated into Geordie easily – probably because of their Scottish twang.”

Sophie and Leanne, who works in marketing in Leeds, posted a link to the video on their Facebook page, saying: “To those who thought we’d finally grown up and ditched the Geordie jingles. Nope.”

Sophie said: “Everyone has been asking us for ages when we were going to do another video – I think the last one we did was Let It Go from Frozen which was about a year ago – so we were just saying we haven’t grown up since then and we still love doing the Geordie covers.

“With Leanne living in Leeds, we don’t get to see each other as much and every time we’re together we get our guitars out, pour a drink and just have a laugh because it’s what we love doing.

“We’re already thinking about what our next cover will be because we don’t want to leave it as long this time.”

The girls have drummed up thousands of hits online with their cover of the Disney hit as well as Meghan Trainor’s All About That Bass and Carly Rae Jepson’s Call Me Maybe, as well as festive song Santa Baby.

The new video also includes bloopers, showing the girls unable to play the song because they were laughing so much.

Sophie said: “We had to put them in because we had such a laugh when we watched them back.

“We usually don’t include things like that but we wanted to show how much fun we have when we’re doing the videos.”
