Two people were hurt today after a four-vehicle pile-up on one of South Tyneside’s busiest roads.
Emergency crews were called to the A194 in Jarrow at 10.24am this morning.
The accident, which happened between the Lindisfarne roundabout and John Reid Road, involved one car, two transit vans and an HGV.
Firefighters cut two people from the car, but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The A194 westbound was closed, along with Perth Avenue and Edinburgh Road, while firefighters from South Shields and Hebburn, police and ambulance crews dealt with the accident.
