Amelia Saleh, 12, has made it through to the last stage of singing and dancing competition Unstoppable UK after wowing judges with her voice at the semi-final held at Jarrow Civic Hall earlier this month.

The Mortimer Comprehensive pupil from South Frederick Street, was initially recommended to take part by vocal coach Julie Miles.

Julie was contacted by Amelia’s mum Dorah Saleh for singing lessons and put her forward for the competition - based on the strength of Amelia’s previous performances.

Now the youngster is gearing up to perform in front of judges and a live audience at the final held at The Forum Music Centre in Darlington on Sunday, June 24, with the winner receiving £500.

At the event Amelia will be competing against youngsters from across the country in front of a panel of professionals from the industry to win the national title.

Proud mum Dora was delighted Amelia’s talent had been recognised.
She said: “The Unstoppable UK competition is a bit like Teen Star and is for both singers and dancers.

“It is a national competition and the semi-finals were held at different venues across the country.

“The semi-final was a really good night, Amelia sang a Whitney Houston song, Run to You, and got through to the final on the Wild Card in the competition.

“She came so close to being a finalist and then we received an email letting us know she had made it through that way, so it was excellent news.

“There were four performers from the night that went through to the final who are from across the North East, but Amelia is the only one from South Shields.

“Judges said that it was big song to sing, but that the tone of her voice is amazing and priceless because it was so excellent.

“At the final, Amelia will have a ten minute slot where she will sing two songs.”
Amelia was a Young Performer of the Year Award finalist in last year’s Best of South Tyneside Awards, run by the Gazette.

Earlier this year she performed at the Sunderland & South Tyneside Best of Health awards run by both the Sunderland Echo and Gazette.
