And while the miserable weather continues in the North East, how much longer do we have to wait until we see the sunshine?

According to forecast from the Met Office, it will be cloudy overnight with further rain or drizzle at times. It will be also be misty in part, with fog across the hills.

For tomorrow in the North East, the Met Office forecast continued: "After a cloudy and misty start with some light rain or drizzle, it will become drier and brighter through the afternoon with a few sunny intervals developing."

But it seems that the good news will stop there, with persistent rain due to arrive on Friday, with possible snow in hilly areas. On Saturday, we will wave goodbye to the wet weather but welcome back the cold - with the possibility for overnight frost.

It is currently estimated that temperatures on Saturday will be between 7 °C and 1 °C.
