WEATHER experts are predicting snow and ice could affect the region.
The Met Office has issued a severe weather warning for the North East today, saying the chances of snow and ice are likely.
The warning has been put in place until 10am tomorrow morning.
Wintry snow and sleet showers, which will begin in Scotland, are set to move southwards by the course of this evening.
It’s thought up to 3cm of snow could gather in places.
The warning message on Met Office’s website reads: “The public should be aware of the potential for difficult driving conditions and slippery surfaces.”
