And the cold spell is set to linger for a few more days, with the Met Office not predicting milder weather until Tuesday, January 19.

The forecast says the remainder of today, Saturday, January 16, will be dry with sunny spells developing through the afternoon.

Tonight will see patchy frost developing overnight, with a few showers spreading east. Temperatures will drop as low as 3C, but feel like -2C in the wind.

Sunday, January 17, is set for a chilly but dry start with some sunny spells, but cloud will thicken from the west through the afternoon, bringing a little rain by evening.

Temperatures will struggle to get above 6C and will feel like 2C.

Monday, January 18 is predicted to be breezy and rather cloudy with a few showers, and more general rain in the evening, while Tuesday will be milder but wet and windy, with rain clearing to scattered showers on Wednesday, January 20.
