Met Office forecasts when most of the rain will fall as Storm Christoph hits the North East

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning across the region for rain as Storm Christoph brings heavy showers.

The weather warning began at midnight on Tuesday, January 19, and is set to last until 12pm on Thursday, January 21, as the North East braces for Storm Christoph.

Forecasters are predicting that temperatures will be no higher than 7°c over the three-day period – however, it could feel colder due to breezy conditions, especially near the coast.

The Met Office has also revealed that there could be a slight chance of wintry showers across the region, especially in higher areas.

This is when most of the rain will fall, according to the Met Office:

Tuesday and Wednesday are looking to be the worst hit by heavy showers – with forecasters predicting rain throughout both days.

Temperatures are set to be around the 5°c throughout Tuesday afternoon but are set to rise to 7°c as we head into the evening and the early hours of Wednesday.

The rain is expected to ease off slightly during Wednesday morning but by mid-afternoon, the heavy showers are set to return and last until around midnight on Thursday.

Forecasters are predicting some sleet during the early hours of Thursday morning as temperatures drop to around the 3°c mark however most of the wet weather is expected to pass by mid-morning.
