South Shields given Yellow weather alert ahead of 'very strong winds' this weekend

The alert, announced on Tuesday, February 4, warns of “very strong winds” which could have an impact across the country and cause disruption over Saturday, February 8 and Sunday, February 9.

The warning, which affects most of the UK, will come into force at around 6pm on Saturday and run until midnight on Sunday.

Forecasters have warned that the blustery winds could cause disruption to travel, damage to property and power cuts.

Coastal areas could also be affected by waves and spray.

Despite the wind, the weather is expected to be sunny on South Tyneside on Saturday, with temperatures between 8°C and 5°C.

But Sunday will bring heavy rain to the borough, with the worst of it expected between 9am and 3pm.

Temperatures will hit a weekend peak of 11°C around Sunday lunchtime.
