Wheelchair goes over cliffs at South Shields after woman suffers fall
A woman was treated by paramedics after a fall at the South Shields coast.
South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade were called to the town’s Coast Road to assist a woman who had fallen from her wheelchair at around 11.30pm on Thursday, January 9.
A post on the brigade’s official Facebook page added: “When team members arrived we found that the casualty had fallen from their wheelchair and it had fallen over the cliff.
“Although uninjured the casualty was loaded onto a stretcher and into an ambulance as this was the only way to transport them.”
A spokeswoman for the North East Ambulance Service confirmed it was called shortly before 11.30pm on Thursday.
She added: “We dispatched two Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) crews and a double-crewed ambulance.
“The patient was assisted at the scene and did not require hospital treatment.”
Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team also attended the scene, alongside Northumbria Police.
