When will the sunshine come back?

With showers, drizzle, grey skies and chilly temperatures dogging us for days, it's hard to remember it's now spring.

And sadly we're in for at least a few more days of it yet.

The Met Office says today will be "rather cloudy and chilly" in the North East, especially this morning, with some showery rain at times.

It's expected to turn drier later, with a chance of some brighter spells, especially in the west. Light winds are also expected, with a maximum temperature of 8 °C.

Tonight is set to be mostly dry with light winds, variable amounts of cloud and clear spells, and becoming cold with a chance of frost. One or two showers possible later in the night. Minimum Temperature 1 °C.

Tomorrow is expected to be chilly, with some dry conditions initially, but with occasional rain that is expected to become more prolonged and heavy in places.

It is expected to become colder, with hill snow possible later in the day, and frost overnight. Maximum Temperature 8 °C.

Saturday is predicted to be cold with bright spells and showers, wintry over hills and with frost overnight.

Sunday and Monday are expected to be mainly dry, but with increasing amounts of cloud, and becoming less cold.
