Why Rafa Benitez is NOT looking at players for next season
Rafa Benitez has brushed off speculation linking Newcastle United with a clutch of players.
The club has been credited with an interest in a number of players since Benitez took charge in March.
But the club's manager insists he is 100% focused on keeping the relegation-threatened club in the Premier League.
Newcastle take on Aston Villa tomorrow in a must-win game.
Benitez's side are 17th in the league and a point above Sunderland, who have a game in hand and a superior goal difference.
"I have seen a lot of players in the Press that I'm supposedly looking at," said Benitez.
"It is not the case. My focus now is to improve our team and stay up."
Benitez, however, did confirm that Paul Dummett, out of contract next year, is set to get a new deal, as revealed in yesterday's Gazette.
“It’s something he had before," said Benitez.
"I will clarify I am not signing any player, I am not doing anything. My focus is to try and win the games and stay up. After we will have plenty of time to talk.
"I am really pleased because he (Dummett) is doing well and is a good professional.
"If he has the extension, it is good for him and good for the club."
