Witness appeal after assault at Premier League Darts event in North East

Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted after the Premier League Darts Event at Newcastle's Metro Arena .

Around 10:30pm on Thursday, February 11, a 33-year-old man became involved in a fight with a group of men on Redheugh Road after leaving the darts.

One of the men punched the victim knocking him to the ground before making off.

The man was taken to hospital with a fractured skull and is now at home recovering.

Inquiries are ongoing into the incident, which police believed happened just before the railway bridges on Redheugh Road, and are appealing for anyone who was there that night and who has any information to contact them on 101 quoting log number 391 16/02/16.

A number of people who had left the darts event at the same time and who were in the area at the time of the assault stopped to help the victim before paramedics arrived.

Officers are keen to trace and speak to these people and they are asked to get in touch.
