Witness appeal continues after young cyclist hit by car in South Shields

Police are renewing their appeal for witnesses after a 21-year-old cyclist was left in critical condition after being hit by a car on the John Reid Road.

The cyclist was taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary after being hit by a Ford Focus at 11.19pm on Wednesday night on the A1300 John Reid Road junction with Chesterton Road. The driver of the car was not injured.

A police sign has been put in place at the scene of the incident appealing for witnesses of the collision to come forward as the police continue their appeal.

Officers are carrying out enquiries into the collision and anyone with information should contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 1302 040516.
