Woman brought to safety from cliffs thanks to emergency services

A woman is now in the care of the police after she was spotted on the wrong side of railings on the coast at Marsden.

Sunderland Coastguard Rescue Team, South Shields Volunteer Life Brigade (SSVLB), Tynemouth's RNLI and its inshore lifeboat joined Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service and the North East Ambulance Service's Hazardous Area Response Team (Hart) on the scene.

The alert was raised just before 5.40pm, when reports of concern for the woman were made to the emergency services.

A spokesman for the Coastguard team said: "As we arrived on scene the female had been brought to safety and into the care of the police."

A spokesman for the SSVLB added: "As team members arrived a police officer was engaging with her.

"After a short time she came back from the edge and was taken into the care of police.

"Ambulance and fire brigade also attended

"The teams were then stood down.

"Remember for all Coastal emergencies dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard."
