POLICE have named the woman found dead at a South Shields home at the weekend.

Kerry Mullen, 35, of Devonshire Street, in Tyne Dock, was pronounced dead at the scene when police were called to a house in the street shortly after 5am on Saturday.

A man, who was known to the deceased, was arrested on suspicion of murder.

But police revealed later that day that a post-mortem examination and a detailed investigation made into the circumstances surrounding Ms Mullen’s death had revealed no evidence of any third party involvement.

The 34-year-old man was released without charge.

Inquiries are ongoing into the incident and a report has been handed to the coroner. An inquest date is expected to be set.
