Woman pulled to ground in bag snatch after being followed by robber

A woman was followed from a Metro station before she was attacked by a thief for her handbag.

The victim's ordeal happened at 7.10pm last night in Tynemouth Road, Jarrow, when a 52-year-old woman had her handbag snatched from her.

The offender grabbed the victims handbag causing her to fall to the ground after a brief struggle. It's believed the offender followed the victim from Fellgate Metro Station.

He is described as skinny build, not very tall and was wearing a baseball cap, grey jogging bottoms and possible a light coloured bomber jacket. The robbery follows a second incident that happened at Fellgate Metro Station earlier this month.On Monday, March 6, an 80-year-old woman had her handbag snatched from her outside the same station, which is in Durham Drive. The offender is described as a white male in his late teens, slim build, 5ft 4in tall and wore a blue hat, grey tracksuit bottoms and black top. Inquiries are being carried out into both robberies and at this stage it is not known whether or not they are linked. Any witnesses to either robbery should contact Northumbria Police on 101 quoting reference 928 220317 for the Tynemouth Road robbery and 463 060317 for the Durham Drive robbery. Alternatively, the independent charity Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111. Police are also keen to hear from anyone who sees anyone fitting either of these descriptions hanging around the metro station to report this to police.
