A WOMEN’S group is making a push for new members as they prepare this year’s programme of events.
The Townswomen’s Guild, based at All Saints’ Community Centre in South Shields, has been holding regular sessions since 1937.
The group had previously been based at Cleadon Park.
Now, as they aim to prepare this year’s programme of events for members, they are making a push for new people to join them.
The group meet the second Tuesday of every month at 2pm.
Each month, special guests are invited to the meetings to give talks and demonstrations, members also take part in activities and there are also day trips.
This month members will be talking about their own lives.
Chairwoman Britta Daly, said: “We held a coffee morning recently for people to come and find out more about what we are and what we do.
“It was a nice event and hopefully we have encouraged more women to come and join our group.
“The townswomen guild is one of only eight left in South Tyneside, after others folded over the years.
“However, branches still operate throughout the country.”
Anyone interested in joining can call Britta on 455 5264, or go along to the next session on Tuesday at 2pm, at All Saints’ Centre in Stanley Street, South Shields.
